IDEA – International Dialogue for Environmental Action

Although diversity is a feature mainly attributed to Azerbaijan due to its centuries-old polyethnic and multi-cultural society, the extensive variety of the country’s natural environments is no less remarkable, to say the least. Famous for the abundance of its hydrocarbon reserves, Azerbaijan is home to far more precious natural resources – its complex ecosystems, rich flora and fauna are our most valuable and, yet, vulnerable national treasures. With the vision to protect these treasures, the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva founded the International Dialogue for Environmental Action (IDEA) on 12 July 2011. The organization had embarked on an ambitious mission to restore and preserve the country’s biodiversity, ensure its sustainable development, promote green economy and application of eco-friendly technologies, as well as to contribute to the ecological balance through expanding green spaces and tackling pollution.
Since IDEA’s launch, thousands of youth have benefitted from the organization’s educational programs and joined its environmental campaigns, millions of trees have been planted and saved across Azerbaijan, and great strides have been made in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. Over a relatively short period of time, the fairly young organization has grown bigger, stronger and more capable of leading and motivating young people to join the noble global effort to protect our Planet.
Today, IDEA is the champion of the green movement in Azerbaijan, a regional hub for environmental activities and a reliable partner to prominent international organizations such as UNEP, FAO, UNDP, IUCN and WWF.
